My Story

I started recruiting with a rolodex and a fax machine, calling into companies and working through departments one phone call at a time. What followed was 25 years on the hiring side, running teams that hired more than 110,000 people a year across 130 countries. I sat in the rooms where the shortlists got built and the finalists got cut.

The systems we ran were doing a job. Thousands of applications a week, legal exposure on every decision, a tech stack somebody bought three years ago and nobody loved. Good people made good calls inside those walls every day. What none of it was ever built to do is tell you, the person on the outside, how the decision actually gets made. So you get a rejection email with no information in it, and you assume the problem is your resume.

It usually isn't. Hiring runs on trust before it runs on applications. Internal candidates get read first. Referred candidates get read next, and everyone else is in the pile. Nobody inside will say that to you plainly, so what you get instead is "work your network," which is true and useless at the same time. Nobody tells you who. Nobody tells you what to say.

Earlier this year, on a cruise of all places, a woman who had just been laid off found me. Her husband had been out of work for months. She didn't need a pep talk and she didn't need more advice. She needed to know which of the people she already knew would take her call, and what to say so it didn't feel like begging. We sat down and figured out the actual names. I came home from that trip and built everything on this site. I wrote The Relationship Bank Account, then I built Your Network Read, so that conversation could exist for anyone who needs it.

That's what Hi2Hired is. Not coaching. Not resume editing. Intelligence from someone who was in the room, turned into things you can use today: a book for people starting out, a $29 guide to building relationships before you need them, and a $95 read of your own network that names your people and writes your first messages.

This site is for you.
